The senior project will:
- Create students who will be independent and lifelong learners.
- Create an environment that fosters cross-curricular mentorship and resources.
- Invite community involvement with the school in the form or mentorship, resources and student recognition
- Provide a venue for students to connect learning, life, and work.
Administration
Regular
- Senior project coordinator: This is the instructor responsible for program direction, scheduling, grading, and guidelines.
- Interviewees: These are chosen by the students based on their experience and expertise. Interviewees should not be family members. Interviewing a high school instructor must be arranged through the senior project coordinator.
Honors
- Senior project coordinator: This is the instructor responsible for program direction, scheduling, panel recruitment, and guidelines.
- Mentors: These are chosen by the students based on their experience and expertise. Mentors may not be family members. Mentorship by a high school instructor must be arranged through the senior project coordinator. Seniors must have at least two mentors.
- Senior project panel: Four to five member panel made up of community members, parents and staff, chaired by the Senior project coordinator. The panel will judge final senior presentation and product.
Requirements
- Proposal: The proposal includes a letter of intent, a tentative calendar/timeline, a parent permission form, a mentor or interview agreement and finally the Senior Project Agreement form.
- Paper: Each senior will complete an iSearch paper, which will be a results based research paper of their experience during their senior project. It will include their proposal, outlines, rough drafts, interviews and a comprehensive works cited.
- Product: The product is a culmination of the student’s work. For some this might be an actual tangible product, for others this might be a presentation of the skills learned. For example, both a sculpture, and a demonstration of martial arts, would be considered a product. The student must document at least 15 hours of work on the product for regular 25 hours with a mentor for honors for a passing grade.
- Presentation: 5-10 minute presentation to the class and Senior Project Coordinator for regular students, honors 10-12 minutes in front of a panel of judges chosen from the community. The presentation will be followed by a brief question and answer period.
